I am an experienced dancer. What can you do for me?

The Firefly Dance Club hosts regular dance nights and dance related events, where you can come along and enjoy dancing. Firefly is a dance club, with a focus on creating a dance community. You can become a member of the club and enjoy discounted rates on merchandise and workshops, as well as free entry to all dance nights. Firefly Dance Club also conducts regular specialist workshops.

We also offer private lessons to help you get to a higher level. Call us to find out more.

Next time you visit us, talk to one of our teachers about how you could improve your dancing.

Do I need to bring a partner?

No. Many people come by themselves to dance nights, drop in classes and series classes. In classes, partners will be rotated frequently to ensure that everyone gets a chance to dance.

Firefly Dance Club will endeavour to balance numbers in group classes. To ensure this, we will not guarantee anyone entry into group classes booked less than a week in advance.

I brought my partner with me. Do we have to rotate?

We highly recommend that you do rotate. In as little as half an hour of dance instruction, it is noticeable that people who have changed partners regularly dance better than people who did not. Dancing with a range of different partners will make the Ladies better followers and the Gentlemen better leaders.

What should I wear?

Wear something comfortable that allows freedom of movement.

Shoes: something comfortable that does not grip the floor. Sneakers are not suitable as they will make it difficult to dance. For ladies, shoes with a strap and a comfortable heel height are good. For guys, dress shoes (preferably not too bulky) are fine. When you get more serious you will want to buy some specalist dance shoes with suede soles, but you will not need these when you begin learning to dance.

Can I take more than one group class in a term?

Of course you can! Our dance courses are designed to allow you to work at your own pace. You can choose to take a broad selection of dance courses or to follow a course through to higher levels in specific dances.

Why should I take private lessons?

Private lessons give your teacher the opportunity to find out exactly what is needed to take your dancing to the next level. Private lessons are the fastest way to improve your dancing.

To get most value from our private lessons we recommend that you also come to our dance nights, to practice what you have learned. It's a great chance to practice and show off your new skills in a social setting.

Also we recommend that you take group classes in addition to your private lessons. The more patterns you know coming into your private lessons the more you can learn in the lesson. Talk to your teacher about what may be the best program for you.

I am taking private lessons. Why should I take group classes?

Group Classes are the most cost effective way of learning new patterns. Once you have learned them it is highly recommended that you take them to your teacher to learn the correct technique. However you will get the most from your private lessons if you already know the patterns as your teacher can concentrate on your unique requirements.

What qualifications do your teachers have?

  • DVIDA
  • Terpsichore

Do I get a choice of teacher?

Of course!! If you would like to take lessons from a particular teacher speak to reception or any of our staff. Feel free to take lessons with a range of teachers to find the one you work with best. You may even find that you work better if you spread your lessons between two or more teachers.
